Our poor old lawns don’t know whether they’re coming or going. Last July they were parched from the heat wave, this July they’ve been awash with the monsoon like rains.
Day in day out your lawn is subject not only to the elements but to wear and tear from us humans too. Mowing aside a little lawn maintenance takes a relatively short amount of time but it will make a big difference to the overall appearance and health.
Here are a few maintenance tips for the autumn which will help give your lawn the love it deserves…
- Give your lawn a special boost with Arthur Bowers Lawn Dressing (£4.49).
- During the course of the year your lawn will accumulate all sorts of debris such as dead grass, worm casts and moss. From spring through to late summer use a spring-tine rake or lawn rake with plastic tines to give your lawn a good going over. You’ll be amazed at how much debris you’ll collect. It is especially important to rake thoroughly before applying the autumn fertiliser.
- Aerating the soil is essential for promoting healthy growth and one of the best times to do this is the Autumn. The easiest way is to spike it with your garden fork.
- From early Winter onwards you will probably only need to mow your lawn occasionally in dry weather if you want to keep it looking neat and tidy.
